Egg stool / Egg table

For the development of a new sustainability-focused facility led by the research division of one of Japan’s leading telecommunications companies, Boolean was responsible for material selection and the 3D-print production of office furniture.

Based on the project requirements, Boolean identified and selected a material manufacturer and adopted a material containing 70% waste eggshells. The exceptionally high eggshell content gives the material a distinctive ceramic-like texture, but also makes it brittle and difficult to commercialize through conventional injection molding.
To adapt the material for large-format 3D printing, its formulation and printing conditions were refined through repeated prototyping. Temperature, print speed, cooling conditions, and other parameters were adjusted to reduce cracking and establish a stable production method, enabling the material to be realized as stools and tables.

The project demonstrates how adapting materials for additive manufacturing can unlock new potential in materials that are difficult to use with conventional molding methods, opening up new applications in furniture.
